With a dremel or another simaler rotary tool and a few inexpensive bits for it, you can make some GREAT hilt replicas and original hilts from $10 to $20 worth of plumbing parts from the local hardware store.
Do a search online for Lightsaber Hilt Tutorials.
Or you can do what I did and go to ebay and spend WAY too much on an original Graflex or Heiland flashgun handle :P -
